history of graphic design
An evolving course on how design reflects culture, technology, and visual communication
The History of Graphic Design course explores key design movements and the forces that shaped them. Organized by movement rather than a single linear timeline, each lesson stands on its own while contributing to a broader understanding of design history.
The course is released one section at a time. The current section focuses on Premodern design, with future sections—Early Modern, Late Modern, and Postmodern—added as the course expands.
Each lesson includes a video lecture, supporting PDFs, and a two-page Key Points + Visual Examples spread designed to be collected into a personal reference book.
Designed for students, designers, educators, and anyone interested in the visual history of graphic design.
Pre-Modern Graphic Design
Includes Victorian Design, Arts and Crafts, Art Nouveau, and Plakatstil. A strong foundation for understanding the roots of modern graphic design.
